Efficiency, η is the ratio of (Power out) / (Power in), usually expressed as a percentage.

The efficiency of a turbine is the ratio:

• (turbine shaft power) / (water power supplied to the turbine).

The efficiency of an electrical generator is the ratio:

• (electrical power) / (turbine shaft power).
