Flow rate

Flow rate refers to the volume of water flowing per second (the flow discharge) rather than the flow velocity, which is a vector describing the speed and direction) of the water.

In simple terms,

Flow, Q = A . v

Where:

A is the cross sectional area of flow (in m²) measured perpendicular to the flow direction; and

v is the flow velocity (in m/s)
